Some ancient institutions dedicated to supporting assistance to social hardship, i.e. the ‘pietas erga pauperes‘, which have updated their operations from time to time according to the changing times, still exist in Bologna.
Compared to those, the Arciconfraternita dei Bolognesi in Rome differs, as it is, in fact, a laical institution, managed by lay people in a religious association, operating not in the Bolognese territory but for it, assisting the itinerant Bolognese people passing-by or residing in Rome and, in more recent times, recalling, testifying, and promoting the historic founding values of local, national, and European values.
